What can I do about Amazon disposing a high value FBA item?

Amazon has disposed of a high-value customer return, which included two units. I opened a case for reimbursement, but they stated that the items posed a health and safety risk, so they had to dispose of them and cannot reimburse me. Is there anything I can do? The customer return reason was 'ordered the wrong item.

You haven’t given much info regarding the issue but looking at it on face value, you should not accept Seller Support’s initial response and escalate the complaint as high as you can.

And if you believe that you are in the right, take legal action if necessary. Often, this is the only way Amazon will listen (well, in reality, it’s their solicitors that deal with it).

What were your return settings? Dispose of by Amazon or return to your home/warehouse address?

It’s set to return to home, and it works fine for all my other returns.

Against Amazon or the customer?

You can follow these steps

  1. Respond to Amazon’s disposal notification, asking for specific reasons behind the health and safety risk claim. You want to understand what exactly made them take this action.

  2. Contact support and emphasize that the customer returned the item due to ordering the wrong product, which doesn’t imply any health or safety concerns.

  3. Request reimbursement or replacement consideration, given the circumstances.

  4. If Seller Support denies your request, consider filing an appeal. You can provide additional context and clarify any misconceptions.

Remember to document everything:

  • Return details (customer communication, reason, etc.)

  • Disposal notification

  • Your responses and appeals

  • Communication with Seller Support

Thanks, I’ll try this. However, I never received a disposal notification. I just noticed it was removed from my unfillable inventory, so I checked the inventory ledger and saw it was disposed of.
