I recently started selling on Amazon UK FBA. I managed to source my first two products, but now I’m struggling to find more profitable branded products. Many people recommend OA, but as a new seller I’m gated in so many brands and categories that I can barely find any products I can actually sell. Many wholesalers are also rejecting my applications because I’m new.
And how did you overcome gating when you first started? I’d really appreciate any advice.
Being gated is very common for new Amazon UK sellers. VAT registration may help with some wholesalers because it can make your business appear more established, but it doesn’t guarantee approval or automatic ungating.
I’d recommend focusing on building a purchase history with legitimate suppliers, applying for ungating whenever you’re eligible, and gradually expanding into brands and categories that are easier to access. As your account builds sales history and credibility, you’ll typically find more wholesale opportunities opening up.
I’m fairly new also. There will be brands you’re ungated on but it’s just finding them. I’m just trialing multi seller pro which scans your account for ungated brands.
I’ve also applied to sell some brands. Bought 10 units and applied. I’ve not been rejected for any yet; most have been approved on the first attempt.
The more you sell, the more you’ll be ungated for so aim to just get some listing’s and sell, even at break even to get Amazon trusting you.
Yes, VAT + UK Ltd helps, but wholesalers also want trade history.
To beat gating: Start ungated categories, submit 10-unit VAT invoices to Amazon, apply brand-by-brand. Use Costco/Booker first, then leverage those invoices for bigger wholesalers.
Thanks for your advice. However, Booker did not approve my business account application, so I couldn’t even open an account. Also, I’ve seen many sellers saying that Amazon no longer accepts Costco invoices for ungating. Is that correct in your experience?
