I can understand it for items that are heavy but I had a youth size baseball hat with core fees over $11.
I think it’s due to all the fines they were hit with recently and also due to Amazon employees unionizing and seeking higher wages. Amazon will always force us to cover these costs.
No one is forcing you to sell on Amazon. There are other platforms with lower fees but fewer buyers to choose from. The best way to avoid losing money is to adjust your prices accordingly.

@Aubrey summed it up. Amazon’s expenses have increased over the years and have invested even more for new services: more delivery trucks, more workers, higher wages.
They’re also a publicly traded company and investors want to see revenue increases and the easiest way is to increase fees
