I currently have 24 units of supplements stored at Amazon FBA, with an expiration date of 1 Dec 2024. Each bottle contains 40 tablets, with a dosage of one per day.
Given the expiration date, do you think I might start receiving complaints from customers about the expiry being too close? As per my estimate, I should be able to sell all units by mid-Oct, assuming I don’t reduce the price significantly.
It’s impossible to predict the reaction of 24 customers. You might sell only one piece and receive a complaint about a short expiration date, or you could sell 50 with no complaints. Can your account handle 1-2 complaints? How is your account health score? Is this an expensive product? You need to answer a few questions for yourself. I assume most people will notice the expiry date for this kind of product compared to something like waffles. Last week, I received coffee with a short expiry date and noticed the issue before I even drank my first cup from the batch.
Personally, I would get rid of the stock today by dropping the price and selling out. Yes, there’s a chance of getting complaints, or maybe not, if you sell it very cheaply.
Consider offering a significant discount and creating a sense of urgency to encourage sales before the expiration date. Also, offer a return policy to alleviate customer concerns.
