What are your thoughts on a supplier requesting resale permit?

Hi all,

I could use some guidance on this. I’m registered in Texas, but the supplier I’m interested in working with is located in Florida. They’re requesting a Florida resale certificate from me. What’s the best way to approach this?

Thanks!

Just send them a copy of your Texas permit. They probably just need it for accounting and tax purposes.

You can try to fill out “UNIFORM SALES & USE TAX RESALE CERTIFICATE— MULTIJURISDICTION” by using TX sales tax permit number and submit it to your supplier.

Did you ask them why they do not accept your Florida resale certificate? Is it because there is no resale certificate reciprocity agreement between the states?

Fill out and get a Florida Sales Tax and Use Permit in Florida. It should be free and I did a quick read of the requirements for one. It did not say you needed a Florida address to get it.

Keep in mind, if you do get one of these, you will have to “file” how much tax you need to pay to Florida like you do in Texas. (Frequency for me is quarterly but when it is $0 that I owe in TX, I just make a phone call. You will probably need to do this in two states with your new permit. Not difficult but just another 5 minute thing you will need to do.)

If it’s not as simple as filling out an online form, simply call the Florida Department of Revenue and explain your situation. They should be able to answer your question.
