Updating the listing’s EAN code

Hi everyone,

I have finally gone live with my first three products but admittedly, I cut a corner and bought my EAN barcodes from a third party site.

I’m now getting error code 8572 on two of the listings so although they are live I cannot make any amendments and I fear they may get taken down. Is it possible to change the EAN’s to legitimate barcodes from GS1 without deleting the listings?

No. UPCs, EANs, ISBNs, ASINs, or JAN codes cannot be changed.

Cutting corners on the Amazon platform usually doesn’t end well.

Error 8572

Using incorrect codes is prohibited and it can result in your ASIN creation privileges being suspended or permanently removed.

Remove those listings, purchase UPC codes from GS1, recreate your listings, and start following the rules.

Amazon seldom gives second chances.

You’ll need new UPC/EANs.

I definitely need new legitimate ones but I just wanted to know if it’s possible to change the EAN on the listing without having to create a new one

You can change it.

I changed mine a while ago and had to get the supplier to stick new barcodes over the old ones on my packaging.

It’s best to reach out to Amazon Seller Support for assistance with changing the EANs to legitimate barcodes from GS1. They can guide you on the process and let you know if it’s possible to make the change without deleting the listings.
