Should I continue paying a VA or would it be better to take over the store myself?

I currently have an agreement with a manager (referred by a friend) who fully oversees my Amazon store, allowing me to operate as an absentee owner. In exchange, she receives a fixed monthly salary.

My product has earned the Amazon Choice badge and is performing exceptionally well. (launched and managed by this VA)

I am now considering whether to continue paying her or take over the management myself, as I believe I have developed the necessary skills to handle the store effectively.

I would appreciate your thoughts and any insights.

Nope, let her manage and scale up.

If your store is running smoothly under your VA’s management and generating strong sales, the key question is whether you can maintain or improve that performance while managing the store yourself. Since you’ve developed the skills, taking over could save you money and give you full control, but consider whether you have the time and capacity to handle daily operations, including inventory management, PPC, and customer service. If the VA has contributed significantly to your success, an alternative approach could be to renegotiate her role or transition to a performance-based compensation model rather than a fixed salary. If you foresee scaling your business further, keeping the VA could allow you to focus on expansion rather than day-to-day tasks. The best decision depends on your long-term goals and whether you believe you can maintain or surpass the current success on your own.

Not sure why you would want to get hands on and take on the management yourself unless you’re bored. I’d argue there are many better options to consider:

  1. Find a new VA to be her understudy and you’ll have someone else available to take over your main VA should they leave/maintain existing product should you move her to help launch a new product

  2. As above, keep up the growth of the brand. Expand your product range, hire an ad specialist to take your sales to the next level, develop a store. Anything really. But you can take this further while she is there to maintain the store

  3. If you’re worried about saving costs, you could try changing her payment options. Rather than a monthly salary, you might opt for % on ad sales or another model that suits you on top of a lower monthly salary. This provides additional incentive for her to help the brand succeed.

If you can manage the store well, taking over can save costs. If your VA is adding value, consider renegotiating. Do you have time for daily tasks?

Keep her! She’s done a great job for you and takes the stress off of you. I think she needs a raise.

If she’s doing good and making you money keep her and don’t mess with a good thing. It’s hard to find honest people to help you scale and especially manage your account.
