Question for Etsy sellers

I had outsourced my etsy store to an agency and have been getting good results where they manage evything. Since Q4 is approaching, our sales have started to increase and expecting to increase even further as we are in the gifting niche.

I’m looking to start another account with them on my wife’s details and sell in a different niche.

What is Etsy’s policy on operating multiple accounts?

Do they also link and suspend accounts like amazon?

Here is an answer from chatgpt. Like any AI response, treat with caution.

Does etsy allow multiple seller accounts at the same address?

ChatGPT said:

Yes — Etsy does allow you to have multiple seller shops/accounts, even if they share the same address. But there are specific rules you need to follow. Here’s a summary:

:white_check_mark: What Etsy Allows

  • You can open more than one Etsy shop.
  • You may use the same physical address, same bank account, credit card, and even the same taxpayer ID (if applicable).
  • Your multiple shops must each have a separate Etsy account and a different email address.

:warning: What Etsy Requires / Restrictions

  • Each Etsy account can only have one shop. You can’t have two shops under the same account/login. * If you have multiple shops/accounts, you must list all the shops you run in the Public Profile part of each account for transparency.
  • The shops each need to comply with Etsy’s seller policies: no duplicate listings of the same item across shops (for unfair advantage), etc.

If you want, I can pull up Etsy’s exact text on this (in UK policy) so you can see how it applies in your location. Do you want me to do that?

Etsy used to be very strict with this in the past. With the rise of TikTok, Shein and Temu, they recently eased the rules.

Just to be cautious, I would still use a different device to access the other account.

Etsy does allow sellers to have more than one account, but only if each shop has a clear, distinct purpose and is managed transparently, meaning you’re expected to disclose that you own multiple shops in your shop announcements or About section.

They don’t ban the practice outright the way Amazon often does, but they do link accounts through details like IP, payment info, and addresses, and if one account gets suspended for policy violations there’s a good chance the linked one will also be affected.

If you plan to open a second shop under your wife’s details, make sure it’s genuinely a separate brand with its own niche, branding, and product line, and avoid overlapping inventory or duplicated listings. As long as you follow Etsy’s rules and keep both shops compliant, you should be fine, but keep in mind that Etsy can and does enforce against related accounts if they see abuse.
