I am new to MWS and have been selling on Amazon for about a year. I’m trying to request API reports, but as a beginner, I’m confused about how to make a call. I have my MWS developer credentials, but I’m not sure how to proceed. I’ve read Amazon’s guide, but when I follow the steps, I don’t receive the data back.
Can someone point me in the right direction on how to do this properly?
It’s advisable to start with the Selling Partner API rather than the MWS API, as the latter is set to be deprecated this year.
If you need to work with the MWS Reports API, you can utilize the MWS Scratchpad, which allows you to make calls without needing to write any code. To get started, I recommend reading the section titled “What You Should Know About the Amazon MWS Reports API.”
Your existing MWS developer credentials will not necessarily work with SP-API, as the authentication and authorisation processes are different. To retrieve your listing reports, you will need to register an SP-API application, obtain the appropriate authorisation and credentials, and use the Reports API.
The process generally involves submitting a createReport request with the appropriate report type, such as GET_MERCHANT_LISTINGS_ALL_DATA, receiving a report ID, checking the report’s processing status using getReport, and then calling getReportDocument once processing is complete. Amazon does not normally return the entire report immediately when you submit the initial request, which may explain some of your confusion.
