Looking for guidance on sourcing

Hi guys,

I need help starting my FBA business in the US. I have everything set up; I just need guidance on where to source products from, considering the new tariffs on China and other countries.

I wanted to start with generic products.

What category are you targeting?

For the time being, you should consider other marketplaces besides the US, such as Amazon Japan, UAE, or Australia.

Since you already have your FBA setup ready, sourcing the right products carefully is the next key step, especially with the new tariffs impacting imports from China and some other countries. If you’re starting with generic products, you still can source from China through platforms like Alibaba or 1688, but you should factor in the additional import duties (which can be up to 25% depending on the product type). Alternatively, you can source domestically within the U.S. using wholesale suppliers like Faire, Wholesale Central, or local distributors to avoid tariffs altogether and speed up inventory turnover. Mexico, India, and Vietnam are also becoming strong alternatives for sourcing without heavy tariffs, especially for textiles, home goods, and kitchenware. When starting out, focus on lightweight, non-fragile products with simple manufacturing to keep shipping costs low and reduce risk. Also, always ask suppliers for DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) shipping quotes so you have a clear view of your landed costs, which is critical for calculating real margins before committing to your first order.

Since you’re starting with generic products, try sourcing from places like India, Vietnam, or Mexico to avoid heavy China tariffs. Check platforms like IndiaMart, Faire, or even US-based wholesalers. Also, consider hiring a sourcing agent or import specialist, they’ll help you navigate tariffs and find better deals.
