INVALID CHARGE METHOD - 5 HOURS IN NOTHING

Well I ahve just spent 5 hours on live chat and it is clear they are using Ai robots to deal with problems.

I have a branded shop - or at least I should have - set up for brand registry (but not paying the monthly fee yet)… And I can’t seem to progress as there is a major problem with charge method…

For seller central europe there are all the EU country marketplaces and they are all along with UK assigned to my business bank card… Now there are 4 billing address, despite me only having one card assigned on amazon… and it seems like the default address is my personal address, not the business address that is on my bank statement and also one of the 4 options… When i clcik the business address in edit charge method it still says invalid charge method… when I clcik back in edit charge method it has reveretd to my home address…
Live chat have been asbolutlely uselss and I have wasted near 5 hours! They are usinf Ai bots because it kept saying the same useless info, like I was absolutely explaining the problem crustal clear but their ai bot was not able to grasp the simplicity of the problem!
What do I do here now? I need to progress to selling on amazon! I am so angry right now that I just wasted 5 horus of my time and my health!!

Any help???

Difficult to know for sure what is wrong without seeing all your details but it does seem that there are inconsistencies in your addresses.

Firstly, Seller Support should only be used as a last resort as most is done by AI and as you have found out, if it’s anything more than a very simple enquiry, it can’t cope.

Are you registered as a business? You said that you don’t pay the monthly fee but this is just for the selling plan, not the legal entity. Have you provided tax details, eg UTR number or company registration number?

Your business address must be registered for the business and your personal address should only be used for verification of yourself, not the business.

Hi, thanks for your reply, I am at a loss here as there’s no way out of this.

Yes the business is registered with companies house, as it stands there are 2 ‘variations’ of business address on the amazon account and 2 variations of home address… no idea why… but there is no way to delete old billing addresses! Even though there is only 1 assigned debit card… The Ai chat bot thing told me it takes 48 hours for updates to happen, I deleted the old card yesterday, will this also delete the old addresses? I was told there is no way to delete the old billing addresses?!
I was also told by the Ai bot that the address is case sensitive? But I have no way of changing them, I added the last business adddress exactly how it is on bank statement, but not in all capitals like it is on bank statement, just the correct characters…
I just don’t see a way around this… I can’t belive it is this difficult… I just set up a business account on ebay in 10 minutes… I can’t believe I sat there for nearly 5 hours arguing with an Ai bot!!

It sounds like a bit of a mess and I think only seller support will be able to help. Try doing an email exchange rather than chat. Chat “should” be a way of getting quick (and correct) answers but I’ve never found it to be of any use so avoid it like the plague.

You didn’t say if you are registered on Amazon as a business but I presume that as you mentioned “business address”, you must be,

** Ask seller support to unlock all business and personal; information so that you can update it. **

Regarding capitals, I am not sure that is important but it important that the address includes everything and is identical. So if you are “Bloggs & Co”, you can’t enter “Bloggs and Company”. If the address is “123 Somewhere Street”, don’t enter “123 Somewhere St”. If your name is “Joe Quentin Bloggs”, don’t enter “Joe Q Bloggs”. You get what I mean.

Good luck.

Hi.
Yes we submitted to brand registry, but we are not paying any kind of fee yet, I was told it’s $40/£30 or so to sell as a branded store on Amazon… Either way I have no phone / call back option available…
To my knowledge the correct address is in the system, but when i manage charges and try to edit the address the default address on the card it seems is my personal address, even though I click the business address it seems to revert back to my home address…??
I am at a loss and just don’t have the energy to fight this now, 5 hours sat at a computer - only to realise on the last minute that it must be an Ai bot I was speaking with!
I cannot believe that the biggest retailer in the world and this is how they treat people who are giving them money!

The “invalid charge method” error almost always means Amazon’s processor couldn’t verify that your billing address exactly matches the one your bank has on file and yes, it’s annoyingly case-sensitive, including punctuation, spacing, and even abbreviations.

The reason you’re seeing multiple versions of your address is that Amazon automatically generates new entries every time you edit payment details, but it doesn’t allow you to manually delete them until the system fully refreshes (usually within 24–48 hours after removing an old card).

The best next step is to wait a full two days after deleting the card, then re-add the same card again using the exact billing address format from your bank statement (including capitalization, commas, and postal code spacing), making sure the cardholder name matches exactly too. If it still reverts to your home address, try adding the business card under Settings → Account Info → Deposit Methods instead of Charge Methods , as sometimes that triggers a proper refresh.

As for support, if live chat keeps giving you automated answers, you can bypass the chatbot by emailing [email protected] or [email protected] (depending on your region) explaining the mismatch and requesting manual payment verification. They can manually validate your address and reset the charge method flag within 24–72 hours.

It’s exhausting, but once that billing address matches perfectly, the “invalid” error should clear instantly and your account setup will proceed.

Thanks for the promising reply. On my bank statement my address is literally in CAPITALS! Every single letter, is that how I should put it in Amazon?
I will wait 2 days, to see if other addresses have deleted but I am doubtful…?!
If I don’t have luck with that I will email the above emails… I just want to get started… I am not confident now that there won’t be other issues, I heard about this, how Amazon can be picky, and if this is the reason (capitalisation) and it made me waste 5 hours of my time over capitals, well I am dreading once I get more in-depth, it seems silly that they’d be so picky over capitalisation.

Re-insert the card and wait. It should go away on its own.

I will give it a few days and log back in.

From my own experience, some charge methods get rejected and never accepted. I have more than 10 active cards, so I always managed to find one that hoes through.

There are cards that work for some marketplaces, while they are rejected from others.

One of my cards works perfectly for Mexico and Canada, but Amazon Japan and USA rejected it. It also works well for Europe.

The Amazon Japan and USA were difficult to find a card that worked.

But you absolutely don’t need to use a business card. Just try any card which you have to see, which gets accepted and keep it.

They are very slow with verification these days. I waited 3 weeks to verify a bank account.

Hi…
Still when Iog in it says “UPDATE CHARGE METHOD”
This is getting exhausting now.

No number to call, emails provided just get ai generated response…

WTAF! ?

What are we meant to do now?!?!

Does not work…

Plus for every single region, in Europe like UK, SWEDEN, DENMARK, NORWAY etc etc, I have to manually add the card for each one, and do the bank payment test, and to do all regions it takes 30 minutes more, just for it not to work…?!
What do I do!?
I can’t believe Amazon would make it so stressful"!!"?

Are these Ai generated responses tho???
I got an email back but it was so obvious not a human!
What do i do here?!

I experienced an issue just like yours and I will tell you what you need to do to get it fixed.

You need to remove the charge method everywhere, from all marketplaces where are you selling.

Then, you need to upload a different card, which was not used for Amazon yet.

The sign that your charge method is approved is that it receives the test charge from Amazon.

You should also receive a text like this from your bank.

I only have 2 cards, and I have tried both…
I got loads of spammy messages and payments from amazon in my bank statement saying it took 88c and 8p or something,…

The problem us in the EU there are 15 or so marketplaces, UK, SWEDEN, FRANCE, SPAIN and so on and it takes over 30 mins to delete the charge method and add a new one as have to do each one individually!!! Is there a way to delete all at once??

I cannot belive this is how amazon treats the people who are making it money!>?

Hi…

I can’t seem to delete current charge method…
If I go in it says ACTIVE - But there is no delete…
I know you said to try to add a new charge method but I am unsure how as it would mean trying to get a new card and I don’t know how easy that is… We have a business banking account, we can’t just keep getting new bank cards…

Also if I want to update a new charge method, I can but I have to update each market place each time one by one and it takes forever… like spain, sweden, france, uk, germany etc… takes about 30 mins…

I am absolutely lost! Is there no number to call amazon about this?!

I can’t belive this is how they treat new sellers!!

This is it.

The sign that your charge method has been accepted is that you receive these authorization charges.

You need to be patient, go from marketplace to marketplace and click on “Replace charge method”.

None of your cards can be deleted. Just add new cards.

Once a card had been rejected once, it will not be accepted again.

You can sign up for a free crypto com debit card. They will mail you the card. It comes with a 2% cash-back on all spending.

This is the card which I use for Amazon and which will be accepted by them.

The card will be under your personal name, not a business. It takes a few minutes to apply and get the card mailed to you for free.

Just make sure to add balance to the card (as Amazon will take around 1€ authorization charge for every Amazon market, where you sell).
