Important notice: 2024 JP (Amazon.co.jp) FBA Fee and program changes starting from March 1, 2024

Announcement reposted from Amazon Japan:

As we near the end of 2023, we would like to thank you for your continued partnership in serving customers and together achieving new milestones of success.

We continue to focus on providing you with powerful selling capabilities, and on investing heavily in people, technology, transportation and infrastructure to innovate on behalf of our selling partners. We do this while also working to be more efficient and manage costs to serve you, so we can provide a service of great value.

Accordingly, we would like to share the updates we are making to our JP Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) fees and programs that will take effect in 2024. These changes include creating more granularity and specificity in our fees so there is better alignment between your fees and our costs, which help us to minimize the increase in fees for majority of sellers, despite recent delivery rates increase in Japan.

  • FBA New Selection program (effective March 1, 2024):

We will expand benefits as part of the JP FBA New Selection program. We will continue to provide an average 5% rebate on sales of eligible branded new-to-FBA parent ASINs, and we will also expand this benefit for eligible non-branded selection. In addition, we will expand program benefit for non-standard selection and newly offer Vine benefits for eligible sellers and associated selection. Go to FBA New Selection program changes for more details.

  • Fulfillment by Amazon fees (effective April 1, 2024):

We will split current Standard-2A (40 cm or less) tier into three sizes as follows:

  • Standard-20 size (20 cm or less): 413 JPY per unit
  • Standard-30 size (30 cm or less): 434 JPY per unit
  • Standard-40 size (40 cm or less): 455 JPY per unit

We will keep fulfillment fee unchanged for all other FBA sizes. Go to FBA fulfillment fee changes for more details.

  • Low-price FBA rates to replace FBA Small & Light program (effective April 1, 2024):

We will end the FBA Small and Light program and instead we will lower the FBA rates by 66 JPY for all products priced 1,000 JPY and below, regardless of size and weight. No enrollment will be needed, any eligible items will automatically receive the low-price rates. Go to FBA fulfillment fee changes for more details.

  • FBA aged inventory surcharge (effective April 15, 2024):

We will increase our Aged inventory surcharge for inventory stored between 271-365 days and for inventory stored beyond 365 days. The revised fee will be first charged on April 22, 2024 based on the aged inventory stored as of April 15, 2024, aged inventory assessment date. We encourage you to check your aged inventory and take action on these products, for example, by enabling automatic removals for your inventory aged 271 days or more. Go to FBA aged inventory surcharge changes for more details.

In addition, we will introduce the following two fees that apply in certain conditions and that can be avoided by efficient inventory management.

  • Low-inventory-level fee (effective May 1, 2024):

We will introduce a low-inventory-level fee for small and standard-sized products. The fee applies when sellers carry consistently low levels of inventory relative to unit sales, as this inhibits our ability to distribute products across our network, degrading delivery speeds and increasing our shipping costs. We will add the fee to the FBA fulfillment fee for eligible shipped products. You can avoid this fee by maintaining more than two weeks of inventory relative to sales. Starting in January, you will be able to view the metric that determines if your products are subject to this fee on Seller Central. We will notify you when this metric becomes available. Go to Low-inventory-level fee for more details.

  • FBA storage utilization surcharge (effective June 1, 2024):

We will introduce a storage utilization surcharge for sellers who have an excessive amount of inventory stored in our fulfillment centers relative to their sales volume. This surcharge will apply to monthly storage fee rates for FBA small and standard-size items and for Apparel and Shoes items. We expect this fee will impact only a minority of sellers who use the highest volume of storage relative to their sales volume. You can avoid the fee by managing your inventory. In February, you will be able to view the metric that determines if you are subject to this fee on Seller Central. We will notify you when this metric becomes available on Seller Central. Go to FBA monthly storage fee changes for more details.
