For example, if I’m selling a lid, is it acceptable to simply place a label on the lid, or does it need to be packed in opaque packaging?
Any guidance would be very helpful.

Yes, you must pack each product yourself before sending it to Amazon FBA. Amazon does not do the packaging for you.
For items like a lid, you cannot just put a label on the product. It must be packed in proper, sealed, opaque packaging poly bag, box, or bubble wrap) with the FNSKU label on it.
Amazon used to offer a prep service, but they are now just about to discontinue it.
So, you will need to place all barcodes on the products yourself.
For FBA, most products must be individually packaged to protect them during handling. A bare lid with only a label isn’t acceptable. Use a poly bag or small box with a barcode. Amazon requires secure, sealed, opaque packaging to prevent damage and contamination.
This may be in some of their documents but in practice, it’s not required.
Depending on the size. Small products need to go into polybags. This would also protect them against scratches etc.
If you are selling a pack of one, there is no need to put it in an opaque bag; just attach the barcode label directly to the single unit. If you are selling a pack of two, three, or more, then you need to place all units together in one opaque bag, apply the barcode label to that bag, and then send it to Amazon.
Amazon is soon closing off prepping services and its usually recommended to pack each item with the polybag/any packaging, then putting FNSKU/UPC labels by your manufacturer/supplier. Then send it to Amazon’s warehouse.
Yes, you can pay Amazon to handle that for you, but usually we have the manufacturer do it for us, or we package the items ourselves and apply the UPC codes. Amazon will tell you how each item must be packaged. Some items require nothing more than a label, while others need a poly bag.
Okay that’s helpful thanks for the replies
