If I ask my manufacturer in China to label my units for me with Amazon barcodes, is that enough for me to enter "seller" and not "Amazon"?

Hello everyone,

I am about to order my first shipment to Amazon Canada. I need to fill in the Excel sheet, which shows “Prep Owner” and “Labeling Owner.” I searched online, but I’m still having trouble understanding the difference between Amazon and seller.

What are the pros and cons in your experience?

If you label your products before they reach Amazon, then you choose ‘seller’. If your product arrives at Amazon without being labeled, you choose ‘Amazon’, they will label the boxes and will charge you for this.

If the product is allowed to have only the manufacturer’s barcode, then it’s best to have them added by the manufacturer. Some products, however, need to have labels with FNSKU (it depends on which category they belong to; you need to check the requirements on Amazon).

If your manufacturer in China is labeling your units with Amazon barcodes (FNSKU labels) correctly before shipping, then yes, you can select “Seller” for both “Prep Owner” and “Labeling Owner” in the Excel sheet. Choosing “Seller” means you are taking responsibility for making sure the products are prepped and labeled according to Amazon’s FBA requirements before they arrive at the fulfillment center. The main benefit of choosing “Seller” is that you avoid additional prep and labeling fees charged by Amazon. However, the downside is that any mistake in labeling or prep (wrong placement, missing labels, or poor-quality prints) can lead to delays, rejections, or extra charges at the warehouse. On the other hand, if you choose “Amazon,” they will handle labeling and prep upon arrival, but they charge per unit and you lose some control over how the products are handled. Since this is your first shipment, double-check that your supplier understands and follows Amazon’s prep guidelines exactly, especially the correct label format and placement to avoid problems later.
