I thought ASIN is a different number from FNSKU

Hi everyone,

I am preparing to ship my products to Amazon warehouse. I noticed that my ASIN is the same as FNSKU when I was trying to print FNSKU barcode. Is this ok? I checked all my products and ASIN and FNSKU numbers are the same.

Does anyone know why this is happening?

Good catch on checking your labels before you ship — most new sellers don’t even look.

Normally, ASIN and FNSKU should not be the same number.

The ASIN stays the same for everyone on the listing, while the FNSKU is unique to your inventory so Amazon can track who the seller is.

When they match, it usually means one of two things:

  1. Your listing wasn’t fully converted to “Amazon barcode (FNSKU)” in your SKU settings,

or

  1. You selected “Manufacturer barcode” instead of “Amazon barcode” which causes Amazon to treat the ASIN itself as the identifier.

If you want, I can take a quick look at your SKU settings and walk you through fixing it so your shipment isn’t delayed. Just send a screenshot of the barcode settings for that SKU and I’ll point you in the right direction.

Yes, it’s completely normal in some cases and nothing to worry about — when you choose “manufacturer barcode” instead of “Amazon barcode” in your FBA settings, Amazon often uses the ASIN as the FNSKU, especially for new listings with no other offers or for private-label products where no other sellers are sharing the listing.

It simply means Amazon is treating the ASIN itself as the identifier for your inventory because the system hasn’t generated a unique FNSKU yet, or it decided one isn’t needed since only you sell that product. If you prefer a separate FNSKU (which most private-label sellers do for tracking and authenticity protection), just switch your barcode preference to “Amazon barcode (FNSKU)” in your Fulfillment by Amazon settings, regenerate the labels, and Amazon will issue a unique FNSKU immediately.
