I have faced this problem for years with no solution, EC declaration of conformity

Hey guys, im desperatly needing any advice or help you can give. I sell Pokemon trading cards on Amazon under the “single trading cards” subcatagory and Amazon is requesting EC declatation of conformity documents for these cards.

The problem arises when my supplier and The Pokemon company will not provide these documents, because im confident in saying that they are not needed for single cards. I have spoke to trading standard, the business department, my local MP, my supplier, the pokemon company & the chamber of commerce and found that no one has a solution or avenue for me to go down.

How do i continue my business if there is no way for me to get my hands on these documents. Im really struggeling at this point and i have spent so much time and stress on this, id greatly appreciate it if anyone has advice for me.

Thanks

Have a look into producing your own DOCs.

I don’t know much about it except when I was trying to send stuff to France last year customs would not accept any DOCs that were more than 3 years old.

The third party that were helping me advised me to create my own DOCs.

I didn’t fancy this idea but it might be worth looking into.

If the products were my own then it would be my responsibility to provide documents, but they are Pokemons responsibility. But given that no one will provide them, i may be in the situation in which i need to have these documents made or i will lose my business :pensive:

Hello @Purdy,

thank you for joining the forum. I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing issues with a declaration of conformity being requested for your Pokemon cards.

Similarly, I am also selling various collectibles or jewelry which are incorrectly getting categorized by Amazon as toys and placed into Documentation / Compliance requests.

I already had a ton of my inventory removed from Amazon under this requirement.

First of all, what you should do is appeal each documentation request on the grounds that the requested documents are not needed, because it isn’t a toy. If they decline your appeal, appeal again.

Unfortunately, these compliance requests are triggered by bots and no one from Seller Support will be able to lift them from the ASINs. If no DOC exists for the cards, then obviously no one will be able to provide them - neither you, nor the manufacturer.

Also, you surely aren’t the only seller on the ASIN, others will be asked to submit the same - so someone may be able to fix it for you.

It would be helpful if you posted a screenshot of the compliance request and what are you being asked to submit / what options to appeal do you have.

Thanks for your advice kika  Here is a screenshot showing what they are asking for.

I have been speaking to someone who deals with conformity documents and he explained that companies like Pokemon/Lego will create documents for sealed products and because they do not sell individual cards/bricks, they do not need documents for these.

The problem comes when sellers like us open the products and sell pieces individually, bringing a new product to the market. This leaves us in a position where Amazon can ask for documentation, but we cannot provide it because we are not the brand owner, but technically the creator of a new product.

I have already encountered cases where sellers were struggling to provide invoices, when they purchased boxed packs of collectible cards and Amazon rejected documents that did not match the single units removed from multipacks.

Have you tried submitting the DOCs for the whole boxed packs? Maybe you could try updating the title to match the name of the boxed version, ensuring that the DOC exactly matches what you are selling?

Sorry i might not have been clear in what i said,

Pokemon will produce documents for their sealed products, such as a booster pack, but when we open the pack and sell the cards individually, we cannot use the same document because it must be for the exact card.

This is before the fact that Pokemon and my distributor will not even provide these documents, because only importers and manufacturers need them, not sellers.

So, if you don’t have the documents at all, your only option is to appeal the requests by clicking on the “Appeal Request” button:

This usually works on the grounds that what you are selling is not a toy.
