I have a question about creating listings in the UK

Hello guys,

I have been selling some of my products that I buy from outside of uk to sell on eBay and TikTok.

My question is do I use GS1 Barcodes to create listings?

Some of the products I want to sell are sold by few sellers but all they’ve done is add their own company name at the start of the product, this is a branded product but not anything that is found in high street vendors.

Is this allowed? I have sold these products for couple years but I want to be able to love them faster and have Amazon as an extra option.

Any advice?

If you’re selling on Amazon and want to do things properly and at scale, then yes, you should be using GS1 barcodes that are registered to your own company name, especially if you plan to treat these as your own branded products.

What you’re seeing other sellers do by adding their company name in front of a generic product is very common, but it’s only allowed if they are genuinely the brand owner of that product and the barcode is registered to them, otherwise it’s technically misbranding and can come back to bite them later with IP or catalog accuracy issues.

If the product isn’t a recognised high-street brand and you’ve been importing it yourself for years, the clean route is to private label it properly by assigning your own brand name, getting GS1 barcodes in your company name, and listing it under that brand on Amazon.

Reusing someone else’s ASIN or inventing a brand name without GS1 ownership works short term for some sellers, but it’s risky long term if you want to grow faster and avoid suspensions.

Since you already have sales history on eBay and TikTok, Amazon can be a good next step, but it’s best to set it up correctly from day one rather than copying what others are doing and hoping it holds up.
