I need some advice, please. I have a product that I’ve been selling for more than a year, and a few months ago, all of a sudden, I was asked for the SDS. I uploaded the one from the manufacturer, but it was instantly rejected. I’ve opened many cases about it and sent the document several times. Each time, I end up being asked to upload it again, and the whole cycle starts over.
At one point, I received feedback that the team was checking if the product was truly a dangerous good (it’s not). Today, they said they concluded that it’s not a dangerous good, but I still have to upload the Safety Data Sheet. I know that if I upload the document I have, it will be rejected. It contains all the requested information, but the sections are in the “wrong” order according to Amazon.
What can I do to get it accepted? I thought about recreating it (or using screenshots) and putting it in the correct order, but that would mean altering an official document, which I don’t want to do and risk getting into trouble with Amazon.
Should I keep trying with the only document I have?
If you have all the info from your current sheet, just make a new one and enter in the same info. Google it, there are several free ads templates that can help you.
Ask the manufacturer to reformat the SDS to match Amazon’s requirements. If that’s not possible, escalate to Amazon support for an exact format or example. You can also explore third-party services that create compliant SDS documents. Keep trying with the original while addressing the format issue.
I’ll try. I am buying from official supplier and I am not sure that the manufacturer will bother with me, a small seller.
There are and I was thinking about the same. But I got the email at the end of July with a deadline for beginning of September.
The interesting thing is that I received the request for whole EU although I sell in UK only. It says not needed anymore for all countries except UK and IT.
I was thinking about that, but isn’t that forging a document more or less?
Request that the manufacturer reformat the SDS to align with Amazon’s requirements. If they’re unable to do so, escalate the matter to Amazon support for a precise format or example. You might also look into third-party services that can produce compliant SDS documents. Keep working with the original SDS while addressing the format concerns.
In my opinion, it’s up to you. You’re not changing anything, just the format. It seems you have the information from the manufacturer, and I think it would be different if they were refusing to provide it.
As long as you are careful not to change any of relevant data, it’s not forging. You are simply making a MSDS sheet for your product you are selling.
If Amazon had said they needed it in another language and you directly translated the item, would that be forging a document? I mean, if I did translate it, I would include the English and the other language together in the same document, showing you are not hiding anything.
Or, if you had a PL item that you modified slightly (by adding your own scent) but it didn’t change what you should do in case of needed cleanup or first aid, would that be forging?
Just be reasonable in your approach and be upfront. In this case, I would include the original as well as the modified document as one. Do it in the format Amazon likes but show you are not hiding anything.
Thank you! You guys are right! I was thinking of the SDS as being a more official document, like something certified by a solicitor or similar.
I managed to get a better version from the manufacturer, which was accepted in the US market (they had the same issue). However, it was rejected in the EU because certain laws weren’t mentioned. Now, if I research and add those, it would unfortunately be considered forging.
Update: I reached out to the brand. They sent me smth that worked for them recently, still it was rejected for me. Just one reason now though, not 3 as before.
