Hazmat and Dangerous Goods

Could someone please explain the difference between hazmat and dangerous goods? Why are there two separate boxes on SellerAmp?

Hello @wilde,

thank you for joining the forum. In Amazon’s system “hazmat” and “dangerous goods” basically refer to the same concept, products that contain substances which could pose a safety risk during storage or transport, but they’re handled under slightly different designations depending on context.

“Hazmat” (short for hazardous materials) is the broader term Amazon uses internally for anything that might need special handling or be restricted in FBA.

“Dangerous goods” is the official logistics term Amazon uses when classifying items under shipping regulations like IATA or ADR for air and ground transport.

On SellerAmp, the two boxes exist because one checks whether the ASIN is flagged in Amazon’s hazmat review system (i.e., whether it’s restricted in FBA warehouses), and the other checks if it’s classified as a dangerous good for transport purposes (which affects shipping options or prep).

Sometimes an item can be considered dangerous goods but not yet hazmat-restricted by Amazon, so SellerAmp keeps them separate to give you a clearer picture of what risks or limitations you might face.

I hope this helps. Please feel free to post here whenever you need help.

Thanks Kika, that’s exactly what I needed to know!
