Has anyone here ever had old orders refunded all at once?

Hi everyone,

I’m facing something really strange and hoping someone here has experienced this or can guide me.

Today, I suddenly received 130+ refunds on old orders — all from late 2023 — processed in a single day by Amazon. No prior complaints, no return requests, no buyer messages, nothing.

I’ve been selling for 4+ years and have never seen anything like this. My balance went into negative, and this is seriously affecting my small business.

I’ve raised a case with Amazon, but would really appreciate any insights from sellers who may have dealt with something similar.

Is this a bug, an audit, or something else?

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

This happens when there has been a recall for your item. Amazon automatically issues refunds to customers for all your orders, even if the batch of the recalled item is different to what you sold.

I have just received a refund for something I purchased from a 3rd party seller nearly 2 years ago.

I had one order refunded a couple of months ago from over a year before…the amount that was refunded was way more than the order value so it was obviously an error. I raised a case & Amazon reimbursed me quickly. I’d suggest raising a case & asking the reason for the refunds.

I have exactly same thoughts, maybe some sort of recall by the brand, so all orders automatically refunded. Its pain.

Must be a recall for safety issues.

As others say, this appears to be a recall. I would advise you to seek legal assistance to recover your money.

Probably a recall. Had a similar thing with 15 chocolate boxes a couple of years back but sadly didn’t bother getting reimbursement.

What’s the product? If there has been a safety issue with it, they have been known to do this unfortunately.

It’s a candy product.

Jolly Rancher? Recently recalled.

I don’t wish to specify the product. Even if it’s a recall or safety issue, will Amazon still reimburse me?

Because if a product was sold in 2023 and now — more than a year later — there’s suddenly an issue, how is that the seller’s fault?

If this continues, any product could be flagged 2 or 3 years after being sold, and we sellers would just keep losing money while Amazon keeps refunding buyers from our balance. That doesn’t seem fair.

Highly unlikely, sorry.

Don’t panic, just wait on the response from the case from Amazon. It’s most likely been recalled or had a safety issue. They cannot just take your money.

I have had the same. Almost 200 refunds done on jolly ranchers because there was a FSA recall and infuriated is an understatement.

Did you complain to the supplier or did you get the reimbursement?

Yes, but I think they only reimbursed because I order from them every month, not to lose a customer.

FSA made a withdrawal notice on a food item a few weeks ago.

Amazon decided that it’s within their policy to refund all customers (from my company’s money) who bought this product from me 1.5 years ago, in 2023 (more than 1 year before FSA made the recall).

All this, without the customers knowing about the recall or asking for a refund.

(~£700 out of my pocket)

Who the hell does that?

Can you imagine that Tesco or Sainsbury’s would look up all their customers who bought a certain bought which was recalled by FSA - and refund every single customer who EVER bought it, going years back ?!

Only amazon does this - and only on the expense of 3rd party sellers’ funds…

A recall or safety issue usually happens with products like candy or food items. It doesn’t make sense that these were orders from 2023, and now suddenly — after all this time — Amazon remembers there’s an issue with the product? That doesn’t seem right at all

O_b - By “they” you mean your supplier refunded you, not Amazon?

No sense, and it could even make things awkward for Amazon as some buyers might think, let’s pretend I was sick after eating it while I now have proof it was a bad product, and claim compensation for being sick… Why make everybody aware there was a bad product sold on Amazon; what good does Amazon thinks it’s going to do to their name…?
