Anyone here from Australia? Just wondering how much it cost you to purchase 1 barcode from GS1 Australia?
It seemed quite expensive when we tried, so we might be wrong, I thought I’d ask first.
Thank you.

Try to get exemption if possible.
GS1 Australia’s pricing can be quite high for small businesses. As of the 2023–24 fee schedule, obtaining a GS1 Company Prefix (which allows you to create barcodes) involves a joining fee of $199 plus an annual license fee that varies based on your turnover and the number of barcodes you need. For example, for a turnover under $1 million, the annual fee starts at $595 for a 100-number prefix. These fees are exclusive of GST and are prorated depending on the month you join.
If you only need a single barcode, GS1 Australia doesn’t offer individual barcodes; they provide prefixes that allow you to create multiple barcodes. However, there are third-party providers like Oz Barcodes that sell individual EAN/UPC barcodes for a one-time fee (e.g., $32.95 for one barcode). Keep in mind that while these may be cheaper, some retailers and platforms, including Amazon, prefer or require barcodes directly from GS1 to ensure authenticity and uniqueness.
