Does amazon charge storage fees even if inventory did not stay over 365 days in their warehouse?
Yes. There are several different storage fees.
- Monthly inventory storage fees
- Long-term storage fees
- FBA inventory overage storage fees

Amazon will ask you to remove your items after 180 days. Only some categories can be stored longer. They said the fulfillment centers are not storage warehouses. Amazon has other warehouses for long-term storage.

Yes. They recently went a step further.
When automated fulfillable inventory removal is enabled, we’ll return, liquidate, or dispose of fulfillable inventory that’s been in a fulfillment center for more than 365 days. In addition, units of ASINs that have not sold for six or more consecutive months and that have been in fulfillment centers for more than 180 days will be automatically removed.
