This happens literally every shipment. Is it like a protection racket?
Yes, it happens all too often. I just let a reimbursement company handle it.
I think they do this as another way to check out which suppliers you’re using since you have to upload your invoice and I’m having the same issue. Last summer was absolutely terrible they were losing whole shipments and had to fight them for 6 months for reimbursement.
For me, they found the stock that I never sent. Now, they are asking either I should add them in my inventory or dispose it and pay disposal fee.
It’s a trap.
It can definitely feel frustrating, but quantity deviations in FBA inbound shipments are pretty common and not necessarily a deliberate tactic by Amazon, it’s usually due to human error at the fulfillment center, scanning issues, or sometimes items being misplaced or miscounted during the receiving process. That said, some sellers do feel it borders on a “protection racket” vibe because you’re forced to either accept the loss, constantly reconcile, or open cases that may or may not get resolved in your favor. The best approach is to always keep solid documentation, box content info, tracking numbers, prep photos, and invoices, so you can open cases quickly and push for reimbursements when something doesn’t match.
Is it worth trying to get money back for all this lost stock? Almost every item has one to seven units missing. Honestly, it feels pointless now after all the massive costs.
100%! If you don’t want to do it yourself, you can use a company like TrueOps or Seller Investigators to open and manage the cases for you.
Two days ago, I received reimbursement for the shipment that was misplaced by Amazon in September.
You need to be very patient when dealing with this type of inbound misplacement case, as Amazon didn’t reply to emails, and chat support was totally useless.
I created 6-7 cases and provided all my supply chain documents for each ASIN—7 ASINs in total—worth $1,200.
Finally, I emailed [email protected], referencing my main case for this particular shipment.
The executive team investigated and provided me with the reimbursement within one month.
