Error 5461

Hi folks,

Looking for some help regarding an error 5461. I know it’s a topic that’s been covered in the past, but I can’t find a resolution.

I have my GTINs from GS1 (a completely new GS1 account as this is a new brand on Amazon) and completed the required details for a new listing. However, upon submission, I keep getting the 5461 error code.

This is despite having received brand approval already.

The error screen prompted an additional dialogue screen for review submission. So, I proceeded to provide all necessary information, including images of my product, packaging, brand, and barcode.

Despite this, my submission was rejected and I was told the GTIN I provided was not valid. I’ve double-checked and that’s not the case. I spoke to the people at GS1 and they confirmed this.

I have a trademark pending and would also like to sign up for Brand Registry, but one of the requirements for that is providing an ASIN for one of your products. But I can’t do that because I can’t get past the 5461 error to list anything!

I’ve done everything by the book, but I’m completely stuck. Can anyone offer some advice. I’ve tried using Amazon help desk, but that hasn’t helped.

You don’t need an ASIN to sign up for brand registry. It’s optional. Having brand registry done first will help this.

Error 5461 typically occurs when Amazon’s system fails to recognize a GTIN as valid, even if it was purchased directly from GS1. This can happen due to a mismatch between the brand name entered on Amazon and the name associated with your GS1 prefix, or if the GS1 registration is too recent and hasn’t propagated to Amazon’s internal database yet. First, verify that your brand name on Amazon exactly matches the name registered with GS1. If it does, and GS1 confirms the GTIN is valid, you should open a case through Amazon’s Brand Registry Support (not regular Seller Support), explain the issue, and provide supporting documents like your GS1 certificate, barcode images, and product packaging. If your trademark is still pending and you can’t list an ASIN to complete Brand Registry, consider applying for a GTIN exemption for the product category and brand. This can allow you to list without a GTIN temporarily and move forward with Brand Registry. If the issue persists, escalate the case as a listing issue and request a manual override or validation.

Thanks both. That’s very useful to know.

Most welcome mate! If it still persists, then you can open a case and show Amazon your GTIN ownership.

Worst case scenario you can also apply for a GTIN exemption and scrap the barcodes completely. I always recommend going for GTIN exemption and saving your money from having to buy barcodes.

Thanks. I don’t mind buying the barcodes, I just wish they worked!!! I’ve tried opening a case, but as I’m sure you’ll know better than me, dealing with those guys is a soul-destroying, pride-swallowing siege. Just one copy-and-paste response after another. I’ve pretty much given up on it now
