Hi all,
I applied for an EIN on August 29th, and I received a 3-page PDF via fax. The document says it’s not an official document to verify the EIN, but it does include my EIN number and LLC name.
Did you guys also receive a similar document, or is yours different? They mentioned that I’ll receive the official one within 10 days, but I’m a bit confused — will the official document also be sent via fax?
Yes, that’s totally normal, the first document you received by fax is basically your confirmation notice showing your assigned EIN, but it’s not the official CP 575 form that serves as the IRS-issued proof.
The official EIN confirmation letter (Form CP 575) usually arrives by mail at the address you listed on your SS-4 application, not by fax, and it can take anywhere from 10 business days to a few weeks depending on the IRS backlog.
The fax version is perfectly valid for most immediate purposes like opening bank accounts or registering your LLC with online platforms, but if someone specifically asks for the official document, just wait for the paper CP 575 to arrive in the post, it’s the same information, just on IRS letterhead.
