Dealing with Sedgwick in NYS - do I need to get an attorney involved just to get them to respond?

I’ve been lurking here for a bit reading up on the process because I’m currently navigating a workers’ comp claim for the first time after a repetitive stress injury finally caught up with me. My employer uses Sedgwick to handle their claims, and honestly, it’s been a nightmare just trying to get a straight answer about my physical therapy authorizations. I call and either get voicemail or wait on hold forever, and the letters they send are so confusing. I’m not trying to sue anyone or go after some huge settlement, I just want my treatment approved without having to jump through hoops for months. A few guys at the shop mentioned that things started moving only after they had a workers compensation attorney law firm send a simple letter. I’m hesitant to go that route because I don’t want to make things adversarial, but I also can’t afford to pay for these MRIs out of pocket. Has anyone else in New York had success getting the administrator to just do their job without having to lawyer up, or is that just the way it is now?
