Custom Bundles Are Out-Here's What Amazon Sellers Need to Know

If you’ve been bundling products in categories like grocery, pet, baby, health, or beauty, take note: Amazon has announced a major policy shift that could have a huge impact on resellers.

Starting October 14, 2024, only manufacturer-created bundles will be allowed. This means sellers will no longer be able to combine products from different brands or offer their own custom bundles under a private or generic brand.

What does this mean for resellers?

This could be a significant blow to many third-party sellers who have built their businesses around bundling complementary items. For instance, you can still sell a Frito-Lay pre-packaged variety pack, but you won’t be able to create your own bundle with Doritos and Cheetos or add unrelated items like paper towels.

For those of us who depend on bundling strategies to differentiate and drive sales, this policy change may feel like a major setback. However, it could also serve as a catalyst to rethink our approach.

The compliance deadline is late Q4, and non-compliant bundles will need to be removed. Amazon will provide 30 days’ notice before taking any action.

So, what should sellers do? If bundling is a core part of your strategy, this might be a tough adjustment, but it’s also an opportunity to stay compliant while exploring new ways to offer value to customers.

How do you feel about this update?

Making it difficult by the day.

Probably want private labels so they earn from both hands, ads, referral, FBA and what not. Or super competitive Brand owned listings with thin margins to keep it competitive.

It’s like you have to find a new stream (model) every few months.

Is there a way to figure out who created the bundle?

Currently, bundled sales may require you to provide authorization for the bundled products. If you don’t have it, it will be a big problem, so you can only bundle your own products.

Is it in US market only right now or all market effective immediately?

Have mixed feelings about this. In the one side, people were bundling cat food with a worthless sticker. Now the person who created the bundle could kick off people from selling the item under the listing. Is that fair?

Now, on the other hand, if someone tried to come in on the item and price tank it, they would be kicked off. Helped those in on the bundle still make profit.

And, what if there really is a good bundle. Like a coloring book with crayons. People should be allowed to feature that bundle.

Again, not sure if it is good or bad but it is a major change.
