I received a notification from Amazon asking me to provide missing COO (Country of Origin) information for my listings. The message states that product listings without COO will be restricted from being sold to EU customers (if shipped from outside the EU) and to UK customers (if shipped from outside the UK).
However, I have never sold nor planned to sell in the UK or EU markets. Can you please let me know:
Why Amazon is asking for COO information in my case?
Is it mandatory to update COO even if I’m only selling in the US marketplace?
What is the best approach to handle this so that my account health and listings are not affected?
Amazon has been rolling out COO requirements globally to comply with new EU and UK trade regulations, and because your account is part of a unified system the notification gets triggered even if you only sell in the US.
In practice, if your listings are only active in the US marketplace you won’t be blocked from selling there for not providing COO, but leaving the field blank can still cause warnings or restricted eligibility if you ever expand to EU/UK, so it’s generally best to add the information.
The simplest approach is to update COO on your flat files or directly in Manage Inventory for each SKU using the actual country where the product was manufactured, and once it’s filled in you won’t have to worry about account health or future compliance.
