Choosing a Brazilian cowhide rug: what should you look for?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been researching Brazilian cowhide rugs and wanted to share a few things that helped me choose. (Disclosure: I work with a store that sells them, so I’m a bit biased.)

  • Every hide is unique. It’s a natural material, so patterns and shading vary. Go by the color family, not an exact match to the photo.
  • Match the color to your room. Bold options like a Brazilian black and white cowhide rug make a statement. Brindle and salt-and-pepper tones are softer and suit neutral rooms.
  • Check the material. Look for genuine hair-on leather and ask about origin and finish.
  • Care is easy. Shake it out, vacuum lightly with the hair, blot spills, and avoid soaking or harsh sunlight.

You can see the full range of colors in this Brazilian cowhide rugs collection.

What do you prefer: natural brindle patterns or bold black and white? Any experience with cowhide rugs in a busy household?
