- Effective from 1 August 2026, we’re updating the Amazon Services Europe Business Solutions Agreement to standardise the way referral fees are calculated on all Amazon orders.Here’s what’s changing:
- We’re updating the referral fee calculation methodology in Clause S-4 for Invoice by Amazon orders purchased by Amazon Business EU S.à r.l.
- Starting on 1 August, we’ll calculate the referral fee for these orders based on the Fee Base Amount (instead of Sales Proceeds).
- With this change, the referral fee calculation for Amazon Business orders will be the same, whether items are purchased by Amazon Business EU S.à r.l. or by customers directly.The change will impact referral fees for cross-border sales, when items are dispatched to buyers in a country with a different VAT rate to the country of the Amazon store in which your item is listed.
- Example 1: You list an item on Amazon.de for €119 (€100 + 19% German VAT) which is purchased by a buyer in Germany. The buyer will pay €119 (100+19 VAT) and you’ll continue to pay a €11.90 referral fee.
- Example 2: You list an item on Amazon.de for €119 (the €100 + 19% German VAT) which is purchased by a buyer in Italy. You dispatch it from an Italian address to the buyer in Italy, where the VAT rate is 22% (€100 + 22 VAT). Assuming a fee rate of 10%, you currently pay a €12.20 (10% × €122) referral fee, but will pay €11.90 (10% × €119) starting on 1 August.
- Example 3: You list an item on Amazon.de for €119 (€100 + 19% German VAT) which is purchased by a buyer located in Luxembourg. You dispatch it from a Luxembourgish address to the buyer in Luxembourg, where the VAT rate is 17% (€100 + 17 VAT). Assuming a fee rate of 10%, you currently pay a referral fee of €11.70 (10% × €117), but will pay €11.90 (10% × €119) starting on 1 August.
Note: This update excludes orders sold to other Amazon entities (not Amazon Business EU S.à r.l.) or those including a promotion such as a Lightning Deal.
On 1 August 2026, these changes will be reflected in the Amazon Services Europe Business Solutions Agreement and Amazon referral fee calculation methodology.
