Can I do FBA in Europe without VAT registration?

Hi,

I sell belts on Amazon Handmade. I am trading below the UK VAT threshold.

Can I sell in European countries (via FBA) without registering for VAT?

Also, do I have to pay a monthly fee to each country in which I sell?

Thanks in advance of your help.

You can do EFN with your UK FBA stock but be aware of all costs involved.

To do Pan-EU FBA, you need registration in 1 or maybe 2 EU countries (or more), not quite what the latest requirement is as I am not interested personally due to the very high costs involved.

Your monthly fee covers all of EU and UK, nothing extra to pay.

There’s lots of help in Seller Central.

In my case, I just allow “Amazon to buy my products to sell globally” and I don’t worry about anything, whether it’s labelling, instructions, GPSR etc. It’s for them to worry about.

No, you can’t use FBA in the EU without VAT registration because storing goods in any EU fulfillment center creates an immediate VAT obligation in that country. If you later use Pan-EU FBA (or Amazon redistributes your stock), you’ll need VAT numbers in every country where inventory is held. You’ll also need an EU EORI number and, as a non-EU business, some countries may require a fiscal representative.

You can simplify cross-border EU sales by registering for the Union OSS, but OSS does not replace the need for a local VAT number where your stock is stored. There’s no government “monthly fee” per country, but you will have ongoing compliance costs for registrations, filings, and potential fiscal-rep services. If you want to avoid EU VAT registrations, use FBM from the UK to EU customers instead, noting that marketplace deemed-supplier rules and import VAT will still apply on those exports.

Hi,

If you store products in an EU FBA warehouse, you must register for VAT in that country, no matter your sales level. If you only ship directly from the UK and stay under the distance-selling/IOSS rules, VAT registration may not be required.

There’s no “monthly fee” just for selling, but once registered you will have to handle VAT filings (quarterly/annually) in each country where you are registered.
