Buyer charged a customs fee

Hello

What happens in this instance…

Buyer messaged saying they’ve been charged €9 by customs to collect their parcel. (I’m in UK, they’re in Ireland.) Of course they’re unhappy as they already paid VAT when purchasing item. What happens in this situation?

I sent parcel with Royal Mail click & drop & the customs section was filled out online plus in the address section I manually added the VAT identification number so it was clear it’d been paid.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Did you use a service compatible with IOSS? Did you put Amazon’s IOSS number?

Did the customer pay the VAT already? If so you’ll need to refund the amount they’ve been charged really!

Yes compatible. Yes filled out declaration & put the IOSS number in the address too for good measure.

It’s not my fault they’ve been charged again though ! I just suggested they contact customs for a refund by providing the vat number & order screenshot showing it was paid & they seem happy to do that so.

Which service code did you use?

Service code?

No just regular click & drop!

Either there’s been a mistake with putting the iOSs details in or customs has made a mistake. Check your label and see if it has the IOSS symbol on the front.

Welcome to Brexit.

The number is clearly visible on the label

Is there the iOSs symbol on the label? No one customs usually checks manually it’s all electronic.

Customs and vat is different though. And vat can be chargeable in 2 countries I think?.. I learnt the hard way with £112 vat and customs added to an item I bought

Vat isn’t paid on the parcel in the country you’re sending from. But eBay/Amazon collect it on behalf of country it’s going to. So it should only be paid once!
