Are there any good Walmart tools for this?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for advice on how to identify whether a product is “risky to sell” on US Walmart Marketplace (IP issues, brand restrictions, compliance, safety, etc.).

On Amazon, I already use tools like IP Alert and have a good process in place. But for Walmart, I haven’t been able to find reliable sources or tools.

There are tools for that.

Thanks! Could you please share which tools you recommend for Walmart?

Walmart doesn’t have as many third-party tools as Amazon for flagging risky products, so most sellers rely on a mix of manual checks and experience. The first step is to search the Walmart catalog itself to see how many other sellers are offering the item and whether the brand sells 1P (directly with Walmart), since competing with Walmart 1P or with a brand that strictly controls distribution is usually risky.

It’s also smart to check the USPTO database for trademarks and patents if you’re not sure about brand protection, and to look at seller forums for reports of takedowns around certain brands. Compliance and safety are trickier because Walmart applies US regulations pretty strictly (especially on toys, food, supplements, electronics), so having the right test reports, COAs, and certificates ready is important.

While there isn’t a direct equivalent to IP Alert for Walmart yet, some sellers use general research tools like SellerCenter’s brand portal, or even just run test listings in a draft state to see if they trigger restrictions. In practice, the safest approach is to avoid big brand names that enforce distribution, stick to generic or authorized supply, and keep your compliance docs organized in case Walmart asks for them.
