Anyone here selling in Japan?

I have a notification of a demand for one of my products in Japan.

I will like to know what it’s like for those selling there.

Selling in Japan can be very attractive because customers tend to value quality, presentation, and brand reputation, but it also comes with higher expectations and stricter standards compared to many Western marketplaces.

Product listings usually need excellent Japanese-language copy, customer service responses are expected to be polite and fast, and even small issues with packaging or accuracy can lead to negative feedback, although returns rates are often lower when expectations are met.

Fees and FBA costs are generally reasonable, and Prime customers in Japan are very loyal, but compliance can be more demanding depending on the category, with labeling, safety standards, and documentation sometimes required before scaling.

Many sellers find Japan rewarding once set up properly, but the initial localisation effort and learning curve are real, especially if you do not speak Japanese or use a local service provider.
