just got my account accepted opened as individual, decided to start this in January really new to this so want to know what are the first few steps to take and how to get started. Would appreciate any advice, or even success stories for product research to get the ball rolling.

Ignore all the noise from various gurus and influencers. None of these guys are going to give you advise and will just promote their service. Spend some time on learning this business because you will be investing your hard earned money. YT is the best place to start if you are new. There are a lot of videos available there
Try to find some good products with a free product research tool like code2asin. Keepa is also free and has a relativly inexpensive pro version. Some people also like Helium10 which is more expensive. Good luck.
If you want to get success you need to find the gap between competitors and buyers which things you can improve like prices, builts images etc…
