Any advice for a beginner trying to build a long-term Amazon business?

Just wanted to share a small milestone in my Amazon journey and ask for some advice from experienced sellers.

I launched my Amazon Seller account recently and have already received 10 orders and sold 21 units in my first week. It’s a small start, but I’m happy to see real sales coming in.

However, I’m realizing that finding profitable products is much harder than I expected. The products I’m currently selling are mainly for learning and testing. After Amazon fees, shipping costs, and other expenses, I’m actually losing around $2–3 per order.

My biggest challenge right now is finding:

  • Profitable products with enough margin

  • Real distributors or manufacturers willing to work with small sellers

  • Products that are not heavily restricted or oversaturated

I already have accounts with a few distributors and I’m learning product research every day, but I’d love to hear from those who have been through this stage.

What helped you find your first truly profitable SKU?
How did you find reliable distributors or manufacturers?

Thank you in advance. Every suggestion is appreciated.

At the start you need to focus on smaller wholesale or online arbitrage deals to learn real costs and demand first, then scale into direct distributor accounts once you have consistent data on what actually sells profitably.

If Amazon wholesale is something you’re planning to get into this year, now is the time to start reaching out to brands.

Once Q3 hits, distributors get buried in orders from their existing approved sellers. New applications basically sit untouched, and a lot of them stop responding to new sellers altogether until things slow back down.

Right now they’ve actually got time to review your application properly and get you approved. Wait until later in the year and you’ll likely miss the window completely.
