100+ bought in past month question

We have an asin that according to amazon records has sold well over 400 in past 30 days (and consistently that amount per month for past 6 months). It was showing as 200+ and we were expecting that to increase at some point. But today it has gone down to 100 instead!

I know this metric can’t be trust and is unreliable, but clearly when a customer is comparing competing products this will potentially be a factor in their buying decision.

Very frustrating and I can’t imagine contacting seller support is going to be worthwhile.

Yes, that’s a frustrating but not uncommon issue, Amazon’s “X+ bought in past month” metric is known to fluctuate randomly or drop without explanation, even for consistent sellers. It’s not directly tied to your actual sales numbers but is part of Amazon’s internal algorithm that factors in sales velocity, customer behavior, and sometimes even recent stockouts or suppressed sessions.

Best thing you can do is focus on keeping your sales velocity, pricing, and reviews steady, over time, Amazon usually refreshes the metric, but it’s not guaranteed to reflect true volume.

Very similar to chatgpt’s answer, was hoping for some actual seller insight, but thanks anyway for answering

As many other contributors.
At least, if I reply using ChatGPT, I always make this clear.

It must take a few minutes to bother, what’s in it for them? Just to advertise their paid services?

Many use Chat GPT just to improve the grammar of their posts. Not everyone is fluent in English.

It is my understanding that these numbers are backdated and reflecting sales activity from some point over the past 90 days.
