Announcement reposted from Amazon Europe:
The EU Right to Repair Directive (2024/1799) amends the existing Sale of Goods Directive (EU) 2019/771 and impacts all customer orders on or after 31 July 2026 in our European Union stores.
Under the existing Sale of Goods Directive, consumers may be entitled to a repair or replacement for non-conforming goods (for example, goods which are defective or not as described), unless repair or replacement is impossible or disproportionately costly.
Here’s what’s changing starting on 31 July:
- Inform customers: Before buyers select a remedy (repair or replacement), they must be informed of their right to choose between repair and replacement and of the extended 12-month warranty period if repair is chosen and completed, raising awareness of both alternatives and the advantage of opting for repair.
- Extend the warranty: If a buyer chooses a repair and the repair is completed, extend the warranty period by 12 months.
We recommend that you update your returns and refunds information by 31 July:
- Go to Settings
- Click Your Info & Policy then Returns & Refunds
- Update your information to describe how customers can contact you for a repair or replacement.
- This information will be published automatically on your storefront.
Note: If you don’t respond to repair requests within a reasonable time, Amazon Customer Service may issue a refund on your behalf.
To advise customers of their rights under the EU Right to Repair Directive, we’ve updated our customer-facing help pages.
