Opening New + First Seller Account - 14 years in business

This will be my first Amazon shop. I am keen to get going.
I have been self employed for 14 years, mostly clothing stores in the real world (offline) as well as some service based ecom.
But now I have 2 consumer / retail brands that I want to sell separately.
My first question is -

  1. setting up a new seller account, is it better to set up a completley new account, as in not with my 15 year old buyer account (which is in good stead by the way).

  2. how easy is it to set up 2 shops? do you manage them from the same master selling account? I assume this is how it’s done given how advanced amazon surely is now?

I emailed in customer support 5 days ago asking these questions but got no reply back :frowning:

Can anyone help??

  1. Having the same email address is fine.
  2. No need to have 2 storefronts. Just register 2 different brands

Hello @mrk1234,

thank you for joining! I am sorry for the delay in responding.

Regarding your question, why do you need two separate storefronts? I would advise you against doing this. Multiple and duplicate related accounts are very strictly policed. You won’t be able to sell similar items in both stores and also, if something goes wrong with the first account, the other one will be impacted as well, making the appealing process more difficult.

Generally, on Amazon you should be focusing on building an established history, which leads to more trust. New Amazon accounts are frequently suspended shortly after registration. This is why you should setup a selling account through your existing buyer account.

And no, if you had two selling accounts, you wouldn’t be able to manage it through a single master selling account.

Since you mentioned that you manage two brands, then I would recommend you to register a trademark and enroll with the Amazon Brand Registry as soon as possible. This will give you advantages and lots of special abilities over others.

I hope this helps. Please feel free to post here whenever you need help.

Hi thanks for your reply.

I have two different brands, for example one is in homeware, and one is a bike brand, so surely i need to keep them separate? Like Apple and Cola brands, surely I need two store fronts??

“if something goes wrong with the first account, the other one will be impacted as well, making the appealing process more difficult.”
So I need two seller accounts? Two emails? I want to do this legit, not hide around under rocks…?

Register my brands with Amazon? Why? I own my own brands. I am confused here.

I have 2 businesses, they need to be fully separate, what is the best way to have 2 completely different amazon store fronts…??

Hi guys. I am still unsure what to do?
No reply from Amazon yet on my questions and not sure whether to open a selling account with my 15 year old buying account or start a new one??
And what is the best way to open 2 shops.,… as I have 2 brands… that are clearly 2 different businesses.

It is completely understood that you have a legitimate reason to operate multiple storefronts. However, Amazon is extremely strict when approving nee sellers to sell on their site these days and trying to open two stores at once would most likely lead to an immediate suspension.

Amazon rarely provides any meaningful support to their sellers, so I would advise you to be very careful from the start.

Start with one selling account, opened through your established buyer account. Establish a selling history and after a few months, you can request to open a new selling account.

You will need Amazon Brand Registry to be able to act as a brand on the platform. Without the Amazon Brand Registry, you won’t be able to create, manage and police your own listings.

If you would like to get advice from Amazon, there are many educational videos in the Amazon Seller University addressing the initial account setup.

Thanks, I just signed up with new email and seller account, but by default it’s asking me to add in ‘government prescribed’ business number, what if I don;t have this number, like it is not a ltd company, but there is no alternative… Surely not everyone selling on amazon is a limited company…???

You are correct but what entity did you select when you opened the account?

What is your legal entity?

It is a brand I have created, but it’s not a Ltd company. Maybe I clicked the wrong one, anyway I can change it? It seems not…?
Is there really 0 Amazon customer service?

It sounds like you created the other account as an individual - not a business.

For better advice, you could post a screenshot of the legal entity on your Account Info page.
