Newbie question. I am starting with retail arbitrage. I found an item that would have a good ROI, but it is sold and shipped by amazon currently, but they only have 12 left in stock.
Will I get the buy box after Amazon’s stock depletes?

Possibly, or Amazon will suppress the Buy Box so nobody else will get it. It’s generally better to stay away from items Amazon sells directly.
If it is a high risk buyer you will get if for sure. It appears they are vetting buyers based upon past performance and will gladly give you the buy box when they are logged in. That explains why 3P sellers are getting stuck with so many nefarious buyers.
If they don’t replenish stock and your price is the lowest and at a competitive price then you should get the buy box. Check graphs to see if amazon consistently replenish stock. If they are constantly on the listing and don’t share the buy box it may not be a good product
Review the buy box rotation stats and the history of the product through keepa before buying. This will help you the decision making.

You may or may not get the Buy Box.
Competing against Amazon is challenging, at best. You’d have to undercut them by a huge amount to get the Buy Box and/or wait for them to sell out.
That is the well known amazon line of BS that is used to stifle competition. You are good enough to collect fees from but not good enough to take sales away from amazon…
They might be restocking the inventory and it isn’t live as of yet. Check the chart to see if they go out of stock frequently. Personally, I would avoid.
@skeeter I tend to agree with you. It’s really frustrating when they give the Buy Box to a new seller with a 60% (or less) feedback rating.
I’m glad that I don’t have much competition.
